Symptoms of Eating Disorders

Symptoms of eating disorders are usually present in those suffering from anorexia nervosa, bulimia or compulsive eating. While many eating disorders are caused by similar mental, physical and emotional issues, symptoms of eating disorders vary widely from condition to condition. Keep an eye out for the following symptoms of eating disorders.

Anorexia Nervosa
Anorexia nervosa causes the sufferer to lose too much weight and develop an aversion to food. Symptoms of eating disorders based on food aversion include the following:

· Excessive concern about weight and shape and obsession with food
· Significantly reduced food intake, extreme dieting or unusual eating habits
· Noticeable weight loss and excessive exercising
· Feeling fat in spite of weight loss and increasing thinness

Bulimia Nervosa

Compulsive Eating
Compulsive eating disorders include overeating or binge eating of a certain type of food. Symptoms of eating disorders based on compulsive eating include the following:

· Excessive concern about weight and shape and obsession with food
· Consuming large amounts of food when not physically hungry
· Eating as a reaction to feelings of stress, conflict and daily problems
